GO WILD WITH ERIC PAYLOR

IT appears to have been another relatively poor year for the number of cuckoos visiting Cleveland.
-
Most of our regular birdwatchers have probably seen two or three during the past couple of months, though I have never heard nor seen one so far this year.
I have been to popular spots on our higher ground, and some of the moorland, but so far the cuckoos have avoided me.
I'm not the only one. Marie Hinshelwood was visiting friends in Castleton and says she heard cuckoos calling on three consecutive days but failed to spot one.
One was seen on Seaton Common near North Gare last week, which suggests that the adults are already getting itchy wings and preparing to fly back to Africa.
