Academy pair set for fresh starts after Boro exits
The Gazette
|June 28, 2025
RECENTLY-released Middlesbrough duo Cain Sykes and Jack Stott have both signed for new sides after being released by the club this summer.
The academy duo left the club following the end of the 2024-25 season, having both been at the club from early ages. Neither managed to make a first-team appearance for Boro, but had both been in matchday squads and impressed in Michael Carrick’s first pre-season.
Sykes has joined National League North side South Shields, while Stott will continue his footballing journey north of the border at Scottish League One side Queen of the South. The pair will both be hoping to take the next step in their careers and earn regular senior football.
Indeed, the chance to play regular football is what has ultimately enticed Sykes to South Shields, having had interest from clubs higher up the English pyramid.
