Alarmed by recent reports of hazardous and infectious waste being improperly disposed of in various towns, the Cebu Provincial Board is set to hold a formal committee hearing this August 1 to address growing concerns over medical waste management in the province.

During the regular session last Monday, July 21, ex-officio Board Member Celestino “Tining” Martinez III outlined several incidents that sparked public outrage, including the discovery of nearly 300 drums of uncollected medical waste in a hospital in Mandaue City and dumping incidents in Barangay Libjo, Tabogon.

Martinez, president of the Liga ng mga Barangay in Cebu Province Resolution No. 38 and Resolution No. 42 calling for immediate action, transparency, and accountability over how infectious and hazardous wastes are being managed in government and private hospitals.
