Palma urges public to respond to HIV/AIDS with love, compassion
The Freeman
|June 06, 2025
Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma is calling on the public to be more aware of HIV/AIDS and to respond with love and understanding, amid rising cases reported by the Department of Health (DOH).
-
From January to March 2025, the DOH has recorded an average of 57 new HIV cases per day.
HIV is a virus that compromises the immune system, making individuals more susceptible to infections and other illnesses. If left untreated, it can progress to AIDS, a condition that severely impacts a person’s health and quality of life.
"It is unfortunate that this reality has become part of our journey," Palma told reporters, emphasizing that "this is a call for all of us to be aware and to respond with love."
Palma underscored that HIV is preventable, its effects can be managed, and those affected can be supported through proper interventions.
