Council calls for united front against cybercrime

The Cebu City Council is calling for a united effort to dismantle cybercrime syndicates following the alleged discovery of an investment scam hub operating in the city.

In a recent session, the council approved a resolution urging content creators, ethical hackers, digital whistleblowers, and civic groups to collaborate with government agencies to identify and take down cybercriminal networks.

The council also called on law enforcement to intensify investigations into suspicious business operations—whether triggered by formal complaints or caught in the act.

This initiative stemmed from a privilege speech by Councilor Jaypee Labella, who raised alarm over threats facing the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry in Cebu. Labella was responding to reports that the city has become a base for fraudulent investment operations.
