Taiwan is ramping up its tourism and investment engagement with the Philippines, reflecting a growing confidence in Southeast Asia’s emerging market amid shifting global trade dynamics.

The move follows the United States’ recent imposition of reciprocal tariffs on select Taiwanese exports, prompting a surge in interest among Taiwanese businesses seeking alternative investment destinations. The Philippines has quickly emerged as a favored option, with a noticeable uptick in Taiwanese delegations exploring opportunities in tourism, education, and trade.

“The Philippines is becoming a key partner for Taiwan—not only for leisure travel but also in trade, education, and cultural exchange,” said Wallace Minn-gan Chow, Taiwan’s representative to the Philippines, during the Taiwan Tourism Workshop held recently at Radisson Blu Cebu. The forum gathered stakeholders from both countries to foster collaboration and strengthen bilateral ties.

Chow pointed to Taiwan’s recent extension of its 14-day visa-free entry to the Philippines, effective July 1, 2025, as a strategic measure to boost two-way travel and facilitate business mobility.
