Surat's Development Gets a Green Boost With Eco-Friendly Projects
The Free Press Journal - Mumbai
|May 28, 2025
A new chapter in Surat's sustainable development journey began on Tuesday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated four major public projects worth 232 crore, including the much-anticipated 'Wild Valley Biodiversity Park'.
The projects, executed by the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), were launched via video conferencing from Gandhinagar. Among the four projects are the 145 crore Biodiversity Park, a new municipal school, an upgraded drainage line, and an advanced hospital management system—each aimed at improving the quality of life for Surat's residents while prioritizing environmental sustainability.
The Wild Valley Biodiversity Park, developed near Kankara Bay, is the largest of the newly inaugurated projects and is set to redefine Surat's ecological footprint. "This park is not just a place of beauty and leisure; it's a symbol of our commitment to a greener future. Surat is emerging not only as an industrial hub but also as an eco-friendly city," said Shalini Agarwal, Municipal Commissioner of Surat.
