Lawyers warn against impeachment bid

A move by a section of Members of Parliament to initiate impeachment proceedings against Justice G. R. Swaminathan has drawn sharp criticism from senior advocates and practising lawyers at the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court, who say the attempt undermines constitutional boundaries between the legislature and the judiciary.
In a memorandum submitted to the Lok Sabha Speaker, the legal professionals described the notice to move an impeachment motion as "baseless" and an overreach that crossed the "Lakshman Rekha" separating two pillars of democracy.
