India protects crucial wild rice reserves, preserving rare genes essential for climate-resilient agriculture, biodiversity and sustainable food systems
India has taken an important step towards safeguarding its agricultural future, with fresh progress in the conservation of wild rice genetic resources expected to support climate-resilient farming and strengthen long-term food security.
The National Rainfed Area Authority (NRAA), functioning under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, on Thursday highlighted the success of a key conservation initiative aimed at protecting wild rice (Oryza rufipogon), a species regarded as vital for future crop development.
