MONEY LAUNDERING | 16 sites in Vasai-Virar, Kandivali, Juhu raided; probe reveals nexus of politicians, builders, corrupt civic officials
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday carried out search operations at 16 locations across the Vasai-Virar region and Mumbai's western suburbs, including Kandivali and Juhu, as part of a money-laundering probe into the construction of 41 unauthorised buildings on 60 acres of civic land reserved for sewage treatment and dumping grounds.
The investigation focused on a nexus involving politicians, builders, corrupt Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) officials, liaison agents, local henchmen, and forgers who allegedly enabled the illegal development using fake approvals, forged sale deeds, and manipulated zoning permissions.
