Bldrs told to refund for reselling house

The State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (SCDRC) has held Navi Mumbai-based M/s Universal Housing & Infrastructure Co, its Reay Road-based sister concern M/s Universal Construction Co and their proprietors guilty of deficiency in service and unfair trade practices for failing to hand over a promised flat and selling it to a third party.
The complaint was filed by Mohamed Jalil Abdulla Harnekar and his wife, Asger Shabnam Harnekar, a professor at Mangaon Junior College in Raigad district, against Saquib Shaikh Ahmed Mukadam, Sajid Shaikh Ahmed Mukadam and the two firms.
The couple booked a 660 sq ft flat in a Dongri project in 2013 for • 60 lakh and paid • 40 lakh. The developers promised possession within 36 months, but construction never began.
