A tearful farewell & call for swift justice

Mayank Lohar’s ashes had turned cold by Friday afternoon. His family’s pain had not. They stood together at the cremation ground, exhausted and inconsolable. No speeches. No grand words. Only one plea: justice for the young man allegedly stabbed to death in a first-class compartment of a Mumbai local train on Tuesday night.
Mayank’s last rites were performed around 9am Friday after the family waited for his grandfather to arrive from Uttarakhand. His body was brought home from the Borivali post-mortem centre at around 4am. His father, Ramesh Lohar, and elder brother Mayur lit the funeral pyre as relatives wept.
