2.41L taxpayers avail NMC rebate; ₹119.4 cr collected

The Nashik Municipal Corporation's (NMC) quarterly property tax rebate scheme has received an encouraging response, with 2.41 lakh taxpayers availing the benefits between April and June.
During the three-month period, the civic body collected ₹119.49 crore in property tax, while taxpayers received rebates worth 5.22 crore.
Property tax and water charges are among the corporation's primary sources of revenue. However, pending dues have mounted to nearly ₹750 crore, largely because tax bills were not delivered on time due to a shortage of manpower in the tax department. Although the corporation has entrusted bill distribution to a private agency this year, officials said it will take some time for the new system to become fully operational.
