A domestic dispute over a proposed marriage escalated into violence after a young woman allegedly stabbed her lover’s mother with a kitchen knife, leaving the victim with facial injuries and prompting a police investigation in Kerala’s hill district of Wayanad.

- HD Bureau

Police said the accused, a 19-year-old woman, attacked the victim following an argument linked to opposition from the family to her relationship with the woman's son. The injured woman has been identified as Nusrath, 45, a native of Pozhuthana who works at a garment shop in Kalpetta, the district headquarters of Wayanad.

According to officers familiar with the case, the incident took place at the victim's residence after a confrontation that turned physical. The accused is alleged to have used a kitchen knife to strike Nusrath on the face.

Neighbours alerted authorities after hearing commotion, and the injured woman was rushed to hospital for treatment.

Her condition was described as stable, though doctors said she required sutures and further observation.

Investigators said preliminary questioning indicated that tensions had been building over the relationship for some time.
