|November 13, 2025
In a major push for women’s entrepreneurship and financial independence, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has launched its new food and crafts centre in Akurdi, officially named Sakhi Aangan.
Developed under PCMC’s Women and Child Welfare Scheme, the centre will be run entirely by women's self-help groups (SHGs), providing them a dedicated platform to grow and market their enterprises.
The initiative, implemented through the Social Development Department, is being hailed as a milestone in inclusive governance. Sakhi Aangan also became the venue for India’s first-ever e-auction for shop allotment exclusively for women’s SHGs. The e-auction process was conducted under the leadership of PCMC Commissioner Shravan Hardikar and Additional Commissioner Pradip Jambhale Patil, with guidance from Deputy Commissioner Mamta Shinde.
