MUSLIM RIGHTS | No infringement on rights of adjoining dargah

The Madras High Court has authorised the lighting of the Karthigai Deepam at the ancient stone pillar — the Deepathoon — atop Thiruparankundram hill, instructing authorities to provide security via the Central Industrial Security Force.

Judge G. R. Swaminathan, who delivered the ruling, said lighting the lamp at Deepathoon carried symbolic importance and would not infringe upon the rights of the adjoining dargah or Muslim community — a point that the court said had not been convincingly challenged.
