The Daily Guardian
|December 10, 2024
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched the Bima Sakhi Yojana, an initiative by the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) aimed at empowering women aged 18–70 years with matriculation qualifications.
The initiative, which seeks to empower over 1 lakh women across India, is set to provide women aged 18 to 70 with the opportunity to become LIC agents, thereby enhancing their financial independence and literacy.
Addressing a large gathering of women, the Prime Minister emphasized the transformative role of women in India's development journey and highlighted the government's commitment to enhancing their opportunities. "There were many such tasks that were prohibited for women in the past. The BJP has decided to remove every obstacle from our daughters' paths, ensuring that they can flourish in every field," he told the gathering.
On this occasion the Prime Minister distributed appointment letters to women appointed under the Bima Sakhi Yojana, which seeks to employ two lakh women as insurance agents.
He stressed the dual significance of the scheme, stating, "The significance of the Bima Sakhi Yojana is not only in the income they generate but also in its contribution to the development of our country."
