Hasina demands cancellation of ‘voter-less’ B’desh polls

Alleging that low participation during the “peak voting period” proved the public had boycotted and rejected the parliamentary election held without her party, the Awami League, former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has demanded that the 13th parliamentary election be cancelled, terming the process “voterless, illegal and unconstitutional”.

Issuing a statement soon after polling ended in Bangladesh, Hasina, who is living in exile in India, thanked “the masses at all levels, including mothers, sisters and minority communities” for “rejecting the sham election staged by the killer-fascist Yunus (Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus), who seized power illegally and unconstitutionally”.

Describing Thursday’s election as a “carefully planned farce”, Hasina said a “deceptive election was arranged without the Awami League and without voters”.

“Today's so-called election organised by Yunus, who took power through illegal and unconstitutional means, was essentially a carefully planned farce. Disregarding the people's voting rights, democratic values and the spirit of the constitution, a deceptive election was arranged without the Awami League and without voters,” she said.
