Shock after woman found dead in home

PEOPLE living in a usually quiet village told of their shock after a woman was found dead in her home.

The peace on Castle Street in Hazlerigg, near Newcastle, was shattered on Monday when “swarms of police” arrived at the scene.

Officers say a woman in her 50s was pronounced dead at a bungalow on the street at around midday.

Neighbours watched on as forensics officers in white overalls spent hours searching the property.
