Parking fee plan is dropped after public outcry

Councillors wanted to introduce parking fees at the Playhouse car park

PROPOSALS to introduce some new parking charges in Whitley Bay have been scrapped, local councillors say.

Whitley Bay's Labour councillors have said via Facebook that local authority proposals to charge for the Playhouse car park have been abandoned.

The group added that plans for a £30 annual fee for first Resident Parking Permits in shared-use areas have also been dropped.

Yesterday, a spokesperson for North Tyneside Council said: "The consultation on the Whitley Bay parking proposals has now closed. We are reviewing the responses, and a decision will be made once that process is complete."
