Barnes sets sights on England call

ALAN Shearer has backed Harvey Barnes' decision not to switch international allegiances to Scotland - and feels the Newcastle United winger can compete for a place in the England World Cup squad.

Scotland boss Steve Clarke has been no secret of the fact he would like Barnes to join up with his group, with the Burnley-born forward qualifying through a grandparent.
Barnes has one England cap in a friendly match against Wales in 2020 and, amid speculation of a Scotland call up, indicated that he is not interested to changing international colours.
