'There's never a dull moment' when training hearing dogs

FIVE Cheshire couples have marked a heartwarming milestone, celebrating 10 years of volunteering service with Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, a charity that trains dogs to alert deaf people to important and potentially lifesaving sounds.

'There's never a dull moment' when training hearing dogs

A celebratory event took place at Woodford Community Centre, where the charity honoured the volunteers with a special lunch and shared some of the touching stories behind the partnerships between hearing dogs and deaf people created thanks to their dedication.

The five couples first began their journey with Hearing Dogs for Deaf People when they answered an appeal for would-be volunteers to attend an event at Arley Hall in 2015 and help set up the charity's new Cheshire hub.

Since then, they have collectively cared for and trained dozens of hearing dog puppies, providing vital support to deaf people.

Most not only volunteer as dog trainers but also help raise funds for the charity by setting up local events, speaking at community groups and organising collections.

Since joining in 2015, Sandra Milivojev, from Hazel Grove, has looked after and trained no fewer than six puppies in her own home. She also acts as a buddy to new volunteers.
