Sky-high prices dim gold's glitter this Akshaya Tritiya

On a day long associated with prosperity and gold buying, this year's Akshaya Tritiya saw more window-shopping than wallet-opening. As gold prices touched stratospheric levels—hovering between Rs 94,000 to Rs 96,000 per 10 grams—many Indian households found the precious metal slipping beyond their financial grasp.
While gold has traditionally been at the heart of Akshaya Tritiya purchases, jewellers and analysts say 2025's price surge has pushed the yellow metal out of reach for the average buyer. Internationally, gold has climbed over 40% in a year, with a steep 20% rise just this calendar year. The trigger? Mounting global trade tensions and safe-haven buying, fueled by fears around Donald Trump's return and his revived tariff war plans.
