Finance ministry backs regulatory impact assessments

On July 28, 2023, Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman pitched for a “regulatory impact assessment” to examine the positives and negatives of a decision before it is taken, and for existing rules.

According to her, having such a service will help upgrade transparency and accountability in the policymaking process.
Speaking at an event in Mumbai, she said, “We may also have a regulatory impact assessment to critically assess the positive and negative effects of proposed and existing regulations and non-regulatory alternatives.”
