Anti-narcotics agents confiscated on Monday, July 7, around P749 million worth of crystal meth or “shabu” concealed in “balikbayan” boxes during an interdiction operation at the Manila International Container Port (MICP), the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) reported.

PDEA and Bureau of Customs (BOC) personnel discovered 110 kilograms of shabu stuffed in balikbayan boxes at the MICP around 11:30 a.m.

The balikbayan boxes were addressed to recipients in Mandaluyong City and Quezon City.

The shipments were packed in multiple layers to avoid detection, according to the PDEA.
