MERTON Boars visited Newdigate on Sunday for to play a 40-over friendly match with Newdigate's Sunday XI.

Fast outfield, an unusually hard pitch for May and being sunny with a gentle breeze all prompted the visitors to bat first as they won the toss.

Merton had a good start as they sprinted off to score 40 runs off four overs. James Prebble (23) and Gurpreet Singh (19) set up the initial charge. A bowling change from one end was forced as Santhosh Vijayan (8-0 off four overs) made run scoring difficult while Aiden Jones (27-2 off six overs) bowled cleverly, varying his pace.
