|January 18, 2026
A BRAVE woman who fought off a sex attacker in Gateshead has been praised by police.
Thomas Dodds targeted the woman as she walked home across the High-Level Bridge in the early hours.
Dodds followed her from Westmorland Road in Newcastle and on to the bridge, where he approached her from behind, before overpowering her to the floor.
He then attempted to rape her, before she stuck her fingers down his throat and pushed him away.
The woman bounced his head off the ground as she courageously fought him off.
She quickly reported the attack to the police, and an investigation was launched.
