VOYEUR MEDIC HAD PLACED HIDDEN CAMERA IN TOILET

- Sam Volpe

Pervert doc suspension extended after tribunal

A DOCTOR convicted of voyeurism has had his suspension from the medical register extended for a second year.

Dr George Zeng admitted one count of voyeurism and was given a 24-month community order in May 2023. This related to an incident on November 6, 2021 after he had "installed a covert camera in a toilet".

At his sentencing, district judge Paul Currer told him he would have to sign the sex offenders' register for five years. Last year, a Medical Practitioners' Tribunal Service suspended him from the medical register for 12 months, and this has now been extended following a review hearing.

The hearing, on March 14, heard evidence from a lawyer for Zeng and the General Medical Council. Zeng's lawyer, Lee Gledhill, argued that his client "had been on a journey" since his offending. In the ruling from the hearing, Mr Gledhill is reported as having explained how Zeng "has identified a new career path and may never return to medicine".
