Boy’s epic swim to raise funds for service which saved his grandad's life

A TEN-YEAR-OLD boy has swum more than 14 miles to raise money for the air ambulance charity that helped save his grandad’s life.

Elijah Wotton-Lidster was inspired to set himself a swimming challenge after witnessing people complete a swim marathon at his local pool.

The youngster decided to raise money for the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) who came to the aid of his grandad in 2013 when he fell from the top of a ladder and landed on a concrete floor. He suffered a severe head injury and a broken shoulder and was taken to hospital for further treatment.

Although not born at the time, Elijah’s grandad has since told him about what happened to make him aware of the importance of raising money for the charity so they can help save other people's lives.
