New jab to save babies from deadly RSV virus

A NEW treatment is set to save babies' lives by protecting them against a deadly bug.
The Nirsevimab jab is designed to prevent respiratory syncytial virus, which can be fatal.
RSV is one that surges in winter along with the flu and Covid.
The infection, which affects the lungs, leads to 34,000 infant hospitalisations a year and up to 30 deaths.
Experts have called for the UK to adopt this jab after proving a game-changer in Ireland, Germany, Spain and Luxembourg. Britain uses a traditional vaccine for RSV given to pregnant mothers but studies suggest the new treatment is more effective.
