Hughes has the look of a champ

HARNEL Hughes was comfortable enough to take a sideways glance at his competition while easing up on route to the British 100m title.

And the national record holder said he has laid down a big marker ahead next month’s world athletics championships in Tokyo.

He clocked 9.94secs at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium, three-hundredths ahead of world indoor 60m champ Jeremiah Azu.

“I was having fun, that’s the most important thing,” Hughes said of celebrating early.

“I wanted to give a great performance and I’m happy to go sub-10.”
