60 children a day sent home for using social media in class

SIXTY children were sent home from school every day last year on average for using social media in class.
Figures revealed a record number of pupils being suspended - almost 12,000 - due to disrupting lessons by using smartphones.
This has given headteachers a huge headache as often social media has been used to bully or abuse other pupils online, as well as posting insulting comments and videos aimed at teachers.
An inquest last year heard 14-year-old Mia Janin took her own life after suffering months of bullying, both in person and online by fellow students at the Jewish Free School, in Kenton, London.
