No giddiness in scaling heights

Southport Visiter

CONTENMENT is one thing, giddiness quite another, so even after completing their third successive league victory of the season, Southport and Birkdale's players are refusing to get particularly excited about their prospects for the next four months or so.

- BY PAUL EDWARDS

Dean Skelton's side are currently joint second in the First Division table with Sefton Park. Both sides have 69 points, putting them one behind the current leaders Liverpool. But the season has yet to take proper shape and S&B have probably not played the teams expecting to be challenging for promotion.

It might also be pointed out that no-one at Trafalgar Road is back-tracking on the close-season view that promotion is not the club's principal aim in 2025. Building a good young side that enjoys its cricket comes first.

Nevertheless, if Muhammad Kashif and Bobby Wincer maintain the form they are currently showing, a place among the leaders in the second tier of the Love Lane Liverpool Competition will be unavoidable.
