A BIT of soap and water was enough to deal with the problem at the start, but when Leah Davies started finding mould in her children's beds she believed the problem was getting out of control.

Mum says damp home is making her children ill

Leah Davies lives with her three children, who are aged two, three and seven, in a damp and mouldy council flat in Penlan, Swansea.

And when her two-year-old daughter ended up hospitalised with pneumonia, her fears for the health of all three of her children only intensified.

Leah, 27, lives with her children in their two-bedroom flat in the Penlan area of Swansea.

When she first moved in seven years ago she began noticing damp problems in the home but said it was manageable.

However, in the last year she claimed the situation had rapidly deteriorated, despite constantly trying to tackle the problem.

Swansea council said it had recently carried out an inspection and was working with the tenant to carry out repairs at the property to help deal with the mould issues.

Leah said that on three separate occasions the council had said it would come out to try to fix the problems, but never showed up.

Leah and her children, aged two, three and seven, are hoping to be moved due to the challenges with damp as well as overcrowding in the property.

Currently, her three children are sharing one room.

Leah said: "I've always had problems but it hasn't been this bad, especially in the kids' bedroom.
