Thousands in park for celebration
South Wales Echo
|June 07, 2025
THOUSANDS of Muslims from across South Wales gathered at Roath Park in Cardiff yesterday morning to celebrate Eid al-Adha, also known as Bakrid Eid, which translates to the Feast of Sacrifice.
It is a festival to honour the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim to follow the command of Allah to sacrifice his son.
This holy occasion also marks the culmination of the pilgrimage, which is a religious obligation that every Muslim has to do in their lifetime if they have the means to.
The Hajj is the name of the pilgrimage to Makkah, also known as Mecca, in Saudi Arabia. It occurs every year and is the Fifth Pillar of Islam - meaning it is very important.
