RHULANI MANZINI - PHALABORWA UNITED

Hola Rhulani, thanks for making time to have a chat with us this week.

You are no stranger to being on In Touch because you shared some stories with us a few years ago. Since you know what In Touch is all about, so we can get straight into it...

We had a physical trainer while I was at Magesi FC. He was from Brazil. His name is Pedro Piccarro. He's a character who was always teasing people. That's what I remember most from my time at the club. There was a time when he bought a camera to record training. I think he bought it from Temu, ha, ha, ha. I was teasing him because it was too small and I was telling him that he bought it from Temu, ha, ha, ha. You should have seen that camera. He was on my case for the whole week, but otherwise he was a great guy, and I enjoyed working with him.

Ha, ha, ha. Did he try to use that camera to take any footage of training?

We knew the task was bigger than us

Congratulations to Mamelodi Sundowns on their crucial CAF Champions League semi-final first leg win away to Esperance on Sunday night. It was a gutsy performance by the Brazilians as they showed a lot of character against such a hostile crowd. The atmosphere was unbelievable as Esperance supporters came out in their numbers to try and intimidate their visitors, but the Chloorkop-based team stood their ground and remained resolute.

More eyes are on women's football

Nthabeleng “Dunga” Modiko’s job as the head coach of the University of Johannesburg (UJ) Women’s FC doesn’t just entail leading the first team in the Hollywoodbets Super League, the Varsity Cup and the University Sports South Africa (USSA) Women’s Football Championships. She’s also in charge of their Sasol League and Local Football Association (LFA) sides. Last year the Kroonstad-born coach was named USSA Women’s Football Championships Coach of the Tournament after leading her side to victory. She was also in charge of the UJ side that finished seventh in the Hollywoodbets Super League. In this interview with Soccer Laduma’s Mzoxolo Budaza, the former Banyana Banyana captain opens up about her duties at UJ, what women’s football needs and the role played by supporters in the development of community women’s clubs.
