|February 28, 2026
Metro system chiefs have shelved plans to introduce parking charges at three stations in South Tyneside.
-
The stations at Hebburn, Fellgate and East Boldon were among seven on the system which were threatened with a daily charge of up to £1.80 from April—when new Metro ticket prices come in.
Metro owner and operator Nexus has now shelved the April datebut the possibility of charging at the stations remains under review.
The decision follows concerns being raised over extra costs for commuters and fears that drivers could deciding to park on neighbouring residential streets instead.
