Farmers caught up in supermarket sprout wars

SCOTTISH farmers claim supermarket sprout wars are a danger to their industry, as three big-name stores cut prices to just 5p.

Their industry body, NFU Scotland, has warned supermarkets that discounting “aggressively” on sprouts and other vegetables at Christmas is threatening livelihoods, while also urging them to stop “the damaging practice of deep discounting” on fresh produce at this time of the year - or risk undermining the long-term viability of Scottish horticulture.
