Nurse's delight after she's welcomed back at trans row hospital
Scottish Daily Express
|February 24, 2026
NURSE Jennifer Melle beamed and punched the air as she returned to work at the hospital where she says she was treated like a “criminal” for misgendering a paedophile patient.
Ms Melle, 41, was hugged by colleagues as she arrived at St Helier Hospital in Carshalton, Surrey, after the NHS U-turned and said it would take no further action against her.
Arriving for her first shift since being reinstated last month, she said: “I have mixed emotions but I thank God for the victory. The silence is finished.”
The Ugandan-born Christian nurse has vowed to take Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust to a tribunal claiming harassment, discrimination, victimisation and breaches of freedom of thought, conscience and religion. She faces two outstanding Nursing and Midwifery Council fitness-to-practise probes over “misgendering” the trans sex offender.
