Controversial home-building plan deferred
Runcorn Weekly News
|October 23, 2025
CAMPAIGNERS' hopes of stopping hundreds of homes being built in Widnes have been given a reprieve.
Numerous schemes were set to be built in Cronton but are now in temporary limbo Image from planning documents.
The LDRS reported in September how a meeting of Halton Council’s development management committee was thrown into chaos as it met to discuss plans by Taylor Wimpey for 350 properties on greenfield land off Chapel Lane in Cronton.
Objectors had raised fears over road safety but the meeting was suspended due to interruptions from some in the public gallery with planning chiefs being forced to reconvene in another room before rubber-stamping the application.
