Lim prepares for strategic turn in investment conference

Polokwane Observer

October 09, 2025

At the heart of industrialising Limpopo lies the province's annual Investment Conference, established in 2020, which continues to serve as a cornerstone of economic development. This year, however, brings a sharper focus on accountability and delivery.

- Koketšo Sekhwela

During the press launch held last Wednesday at the Atrium Hotel, the Department of Economic Development head, Dr Matodzi Rathumbu, said that from this year onwards, there will be a strategic assessment and preparation process for potential investors to avoid the disappointments of unfulfilled pledges that have marred past conferences.

The Premier, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, along with the MEC for Economic Development, Environment and Tourism Baldwin Matibe, joined Rathumbu in responding to media questions. They confirmed the fundraising target has been set at an ambitious R120b, despite only 23.6% of previous pledges having materialised into actual investments since the conference's inception.
