EDEL KENEALY

A Paisley professor and Holocaust author has spoken of his horror following Thursday’s attack on a Manchester synagogue.

Jewish man Henry Maitles said he was appalled to see the images play out on his TV screen as Jews across the UK marked Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish religious calendar.

Two men died and three people were injured when Jihad Al-Shamie rammed his car into people and stabbed others at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue.

The two men who died were named as Melvin Cravitz, 66, and Adrian Daulby, 53.

Police yesterday confirmed one man appeared to have been hit by police gunfire as they shot the attacker.

Henry, who has also spent the past two years calling for peace in Gaza as part of Paisley 4 Palestine, said his thoughts are with all those affected by the terror attack.
