HE'D BEEN LET OUT OF JAIL ON LICENCE

- By MARTIN NAYLOR

Widow, 91, dragged to the ground and robbed in alleyway

A 91-YEAR-OLD widow was dragged to the ground and robbed in an alleyway as she walked to a post office.

Jacob Harper “deliberately targeted the frail and elderly” pensioner who knew his mother when he grabbed her from behind leaving her injured on the floor and making off with her handbag.

At the time, the 34-year-old drug addict was on licence from prison for committing exactly the same type of bag snatch robbery on an 85-year-old woman. And the defendant's own mother later helped snare her son when she provided the police with CCTV of him outside her address moments before the robbery.

Jailing him for three years and nine months at Nottingham Crown Court, Judge Robert Egbuna said: “She was an elderly and vulnerable 91-year-old woman who lived in the area for 40 years and never had any issues before.

“She shouted for help as she could feel blood trickling down her face.
