Police issue timeline of investigation into death at game
Nottingham Post
|April 30, 2025
DETECTIVES who investigated the death of Adam Johnson have issued a lengthy statement spelling out the timeline of their work.
-
The 29-year-old Nottingham Panthers player died after being hit in the neck by an opponent's skate in a game against Sheffield Steelers in October 2023. Steelers player Matt Petgrave identified himself as the man arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) yesterday confirmed it would not be bringing any criminal charges in connection with the incident.
South Yorkshire Police, who first arrested Mr Petgrave on suspicion of manslaughter in November 2023, released a statement outlining the force's work on the case. The force said it first submitted a file to the CPS for review and for a charging decision to be made in May last year.
