INVESTIGATION CONCLUDES WITH NO FORMAL ACTION TAKEN

Food safety advice for venue after 'over-aged' beef served at annual ball

NO formal action has been taken against a Nottinghamshire events venue where "over-aged" beef was served to guests at a farming ball.

An environmental health officer has been examining the Southwell and District Agricultural Society's annual ball on November 1.

The venue hosting the event confirmed at the time that some beef joints were sent back to the kitchen and that a sample of the meat had been sent to an accredited analysis centre.

The event was held at The Renaissance at Kelham Hall, a 19th-century building that was taken on by the current owners in 2021, and the operators said an initial inspection following the event "confirmed our compliance with the highest standards".

Although the initial inspection confirmed compliance, Newark and Sherwood District Council confirmed at the time that it received a complaint and that, as a result, an environmental health officer was investigating.
