A COLLEGE and a university that lease part of a University of Nottingham campus set to be sold say they will not be affected by the decision.

Education-provider tenants unaffected by uni campus sale

The University of Nottingham recently confirmed it will be selling its Castle Meadow Campus amid challenging finances, despite having spent more than £80 million on it.

The university says it faces £100 million of costs every year to operate its estate and that this figure is “not sustainable”.

Unions have long criticised the university's development of the Castle Meadow Campus, which was only supposed to cost £45 million over the first 10 years, and have said it is partly to blame for hundreds of job cuts.

The latest part of the campus only opened months ago and the university said that the parts of the site it occupies would be shut down within weeks. The university also said that two external tenants based at the campus, Arden University and Nottingham College, would “remain on site as sitting tenants while the plans for the sale progress”.
