Remulla: No special treatment for Jinggoy, co-accussed
Manila Bulletin
|June 3, 2026
Under no circumstances will Senator Jinggoy Estrada and his co-accussed in the P573 million flood control project anomaly will receive preferential treatment while detained at the Quezon City Male Dormitory after the Sandiganbayan issued a warrant of arrest against them, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Juanito Victor “Jonvic’’ Remulla assured on Monday night, June 1.
After personally serving the warrant at the Senate building, Remulla said all individuals named in the court order were subjected to the same legal process, regardless of position, influence, or public office.
“There will really be no special treatment. They will be dealt with fairly, equally, no special privileges. The warrant also names former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel Bonoan, District Engineers Manny Bulusan and Arturo Gonzales Jr., and Assistant District Engineer Denryl Caesar Cortuna as respondents in the non-bailable plunder case filed by the Office of the Ombudsman,” Remulla said.
The latest Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) report disclosed that Estrada, Cortuna, Bulusan, and Gonzales were transferred from the Sandiganbayan to the Quezon City Jail Male Dormitory on June 1, 2026 following the completion of all required legal, medical, and custodial procedures.
