Mum lived with secret of dead baby
Manchester Evening News
|March 07, 2025
SAT on a sofa at her home she remains quiet and expressionless. It is the moment Joanne Sharkey had avoided for 25 years.
A police officer is sensitively explaining to her that she is being arrested for the murder of a baby. The video footage of her arrest was made at 8.40am on July 28th 2023.
Ironically on the pink T-shirt she is wearing is printed the word 'Mum'.
On March 14, 1998, at about 10.45am, the naked body of a newborn baby boy was found by a local man out walking his dog with his young son.
The baby's body had been discarded inside two knotted bin bags in a wooded area off Camp Road near Gulliver's World theme park in Warrington.
The child was Joanne Sharkey's baby and she had lived with the secret she had killed him for a quarter of a century.
