IT'S STOCKPORT VERSUS WIGAN AS BAKERS GO TO BATTLE IN PRESTIGIOUS NATIONAL AWARDS

- By ADAM MAIDMENT

EYES ON THE PIES

PIEMAKERS from across Greater Manchester are in contention to win a top national honour later this week.

To coincide with British Pie Week, a whopping 902 different pastries were submitted for contention at this year's British Pie Awards, with the winners to be unveiled today.

Following the judging earlier on Wednesday, which took place at St Mary's Church in Melton Mowbray, the entries have now been whittled down to a top three in each category - and there's a lot of local pride to be found within the shortlist.

Among the shortlist are two Greater Manchester winners from last year. First up, the Town Street Fryer chip shop in Stockport's Marple Bridge took home third place for its chicken and leek pie at the awards in 2024.

This year, they have been shortlisted for four awards Best Chip Shop Pie, Chicken Pie, Savoury Pie and Steak & Ale Pie.
