Baylor upsets No. 17 SMU in double overtime

Baylor freshman Connor Hawkins kicked a 27-yard field goal in the second overtime after Sawyer Robertson threw two of his four touchdowns in the final 5¹⁄₂ minutes of regulation as the Bears rallied to beat 17th-ranked Southern Methodist 48-45 in Dallas on Saturday.

Robertson was 34-of-50 passing with 440 yards for the Bears (1-1), who have won 14 meetings in a row against their former Southwest Conference rival since 1986. Bryson Washington ran for 115 yards and two scores, including a two-yard touchdown in the first overtime.

Collin Rogers was well short on a 57-yard field-goal attempt at the end of regulation, then was wide right on a 38-yard try when SMU (1-1) had the ball first in the second overtime.

Kevin Jennings threw for 296 yards and three touchdowns, with two 75-yard scores and a 25-yarder to Romello Brinson on the Mustangs’ first play in overtime. Brinson had one of the 75-yarders on the first play of the game, and Jennings hit freshman Jalen Cooper in stride for the other long score late in the second quarter.

at No. 1 Ohio State 70, Grambling State 0: Julian Sayin threw for four touch downs, set an Ohio State record for completed passes to start a game and fell one short of the school record for consecutive completions as the Buckeyes rolled past the Tigers. Ohio State scored on eight of its first nine possessions and did not punt until midway through the fourth quarter.

at No. 2 Penn State 34, Florida International 0: Drew Allar completed 19 of 33 passes for 200 yards and two touchdowns in the shutout win. Devonte Ross and Khalil Dinkins caught touchdown passes, Kaytron Allen and Nicholas Single ton ran for scores and Ryan Barker kicked two field goals for the Nittany Lions (2-0), who shook off a sluggish first half and beat their second consecutive Group of Five opponent.
